CITED FOR A MISDEMEANOR IN THE CITY
OF SPOKANE?
YOUR COURT DATE IS ON YOUR TICKET
**********************************************************************************
Spokane, WA-- Since launching operations just after the first of the year,
the City of Spokane's new Municipal Court has had a sharp focus on
efficient use of time and resources. Part of that effort has included having
Spokane Police officers include an arraignment date on misdemeanor
citations when they are written.
Some people have missed their arraignments, however, because they
didn't look closely at their tickets.
"The Court is reducing the number of times an individual needs to come
to court to address their case," says Municipal Court Presiding Judge
Mary Logan. "Individuals go from receipt of ticket to court, skipping
the step of setting a court date. But, some people have missed that
information on their tickets."
When a person is cited and released for a criminal misdemeanor charge
within the City of Spokane, the Police officer will place the date and
time for the arraignment in the lower left hand corner of the ticket.
This includes DUIs and domestic violence cases. People who are booked
into jail have a different process.
Arraignments are held daily at Spokane Municipal Court at 1:30 p.m.
